Last of the baseline days. After today you'll know his floor in the four operations, you'll have his term goal in his own words, and the wall will have his business ideas on it. Next week the real teaching starts.
Write these ONE at a time, wiping the board between each:
Then the same four again with the calculator: can he enter them and read the answer?
Note which operations have a real strategy behind them, and which ones are guesses.
Open the habit playbook first: what did we already get good at this year? That's the proof that goals work.
Shape it SMART together, out loud, one letter at a time. You hold the structure, he holds the content.
He dictates the final goal. Print it. It goes on the wall next to the tracker.
This feeds the Week 4 organisation plan, so keep the printout handy.
Prompts, one at a time:
Get to at least 6 ideas. Park ALL of them on the wall. He circles his 3 favourites, gut feel only, no analysis. The scoring happens next week.
Do not evaluate anything today, even positively. Evaluation kills storms.
Tap when the three are done. Baseline week is nearly closed.
M2 is your clearest maths data of the whole week. Four operations, no scaffolding, thinking out loud. Whatever you learn there sets the maths level for the next nine weeks.
The temptation is to steer him toward the card store because it's already built into the term. Don't. If his own storm lands somewhere else, that is genuinely useful information about what he'll stay engaged with.
